Mini Cookies Dipped in Nuts (Petits-Fours)

INGREDIENTS Measurements


1 cup soft butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Jam and melted chocolate, for filling and dipping
Ground nuts, for garnish



  • Preheat oven to 160˚C (325˚F).
  • In bowl of electric mixer, cream butter and sugar on high speed for about 6 minutes, or until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Beat until blended. Fold in flour until dough is soft and well combined.
  • Transfer dough to a pastry bag fitted with star tip. Pipe a variety of shapes onto a baking sheet, spacing them well apart
  • Bake for 15 minutes or, until golden brown.
  • Let cool. Brush jam or chocolate over half the cookie bottoms, sandwiching uncovered cookies on top. Dip one end of each cookie in more jam or chocolate, then dip in ground nuts.
  • Arrange cookies on a serving plate.


  • Substitute 2 tablespoons of the all-purpose flour with the same amount of cocoa powder.
