INGREDIENTS Measurements


2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 kilo ground beef
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 chili pepper, finely chopped (optional)
Salt and pepper
Arabic Bread


  For the filling

  • - Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat, add ground beef and stir for 5 minutes.
  • - Add onions and stir for another 5 minutes, mix in green bell pepper.
  • - Season the mixture salt and pepper; add red chili pepper (optional).
  • - Cook for 5 more minutes or until the juice evaporates, stirring occasionally.

  For the Hawawshi

  • - Grill the bread to create grill marks.
  • - Open the bread to make a pouch, paying attention not to separate the halves completely.
  • - Stuff the bread with the meat filling and seal by slightly pressing.
  • - Cut parchment paper to squares a bit larger than the size of the loaves (the parchment paper can be drizzled with a little bit of oil).
  • - Place the loaves on the parchment paper and wrap, keeping their round shape.
  • - Place stuffed bread on a baking sheet and bake on the middle rack of the oven for 15 minutes.
  • - Serve Hawawshi hot.
