Cheddar cheese sauce with bread

INGREDIENTS Measurements


4 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon mustard
1/2 cup malt beverage
1/2 cup whipping cream
Salt and pepper
1/2 cup spreadable cheddar cheese
baguette for serving



  • Heat the butter in a pan over medium heat, add flour and stir for 3 minutes then add the mustard.
  • Add the malt beverage and the whipping cream gradually. Stir continuously until the mixture boils and thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Remove the pan away from heat then add the cheese and stir until it completely melts and well combined.
  • Serve with French bread cut into pieces.


  • When serving, skewer each piece of bread so that it could be easily dipped in the cheese sauce.
